NOMAD SHADOW by Eimi Imanishi
Mariam, a rebellious young woman, is deported back to Western Sahara after spending ten years in Spain. She carries, with her the weight of failure and lost freedom when she crosses the border into her homeland. Struggling to conform to her family’s rigid expectations, Mariam seeks escape through a renewed bond with her ex-boyfriend and by joining a ring of female hash dealers whose relative autonomy and marginalized lifestyles she sees herself mirrored in. But her search for purpose leads to deeper isolation and heartbreak. When tragedy strikes, Mariam finds herself floating alone at sea, where she comes to discover the true meaning of belonging.
